Pulse Wave Velocity

The pulse wave produced by the heart beat runs into the arterial system with a certain velocity, which is determined mainly by Arterial Elasticity. In the peripheral vessels, the wave is reflected and turns back to the heart. If the pulse wave velocity is too fast, the pulse wave returns, when the heart valves are still open and the returning wave disturbs the outflow of the blood. A slow pulse wave velocity lets the pulse wave run slowly and return, when the heart valves are already closed. The returning pulse wave in this case moves into the open coronary vessels and support the important blood perfusion of the myocardium, the heart muscle.

Omega 3 oils available in fat fish and linseed oil keep the vessels structurally elastic . Stress reduction reduces the stress mediated tension of the vessels and slows down the pulse wave velocity.
